The unspeakable crimes towards other creatures around us are only half of the story.
The real issue is our indifference to them.

Why should the law refuse its protection to any sensitive being? The time will come when humanity will extend its mantle over everything which breathes
Greek Law 2017 (1992):
"No one should pointlessly make an animal suffer or cause it distress. No one should abandon a domestic animal.Due to the high incidence of the ill-treatment and cruelty to animals that is regularly reported to Himaira Association, Balia],the Himaira Association proposed to the Government and the Municipalities that the State and local Municipal Police create departments with the unique aim of the prosecution and crack down of violence against animals.
We are requesting that departments for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals be created in the large cities in Greece. In addition, we ask that people who commit these crimes against animals be prosecuted by the governing agencies of the police.
Greece has finally reached the hour where at last it is beginning to replicate the models of other more developed countries in the opposition of the State to the cruel treatment of animals.
What we ask is that the departments of police respond immediately to the charges of cruelty to animals when reports from citizens on these incidents of violence to the animals occur. In addition, we ask that further investigation into these reports concerning the violence towards these animals be initiated to find the guilty parties and prosecute them according to the law.
Together, we will mobilize and be linked together in order to change the way we confront the mindless people who find satisfaction in harming defenseless animals.
The hour has come to consider the bad character that we invent about the animals, with the apathetic attitude that we persist in, when we see or hear about these incidents of violence.
